Look how times have changed. Not so long ago the only option was to commute to your office, work and commute back. Nothing special really, nothing anyone would be bothered to tweak.
But as time went by it became clear we are losing lots of time in traffic jams, costs are fairly high and we arrive to the office already stressed. Not the ideal scenario for any employee.
It’s also not the ideal scenario for any employer, since it impacts our productivity.
That’s why many of them give their office workers to work from home once in a while. It can be a day or two, but even more. Depending on the company you might not have to show up in the office at all!
Which is pretty cool. It gives you a lot of freedom to organise your day. It also gives you a feeling of being your own boss. You are more relaxed and as studies tend to show – more productive.
But it’s not only that, there are few other reasons.
More and more households have home offices also because there are so many things you have to keep an eye on. Your bills, tax reports, expenses, planning your time off and everything else.
Most of the stuff nowadays is being done with the help of computer. And it’s even more needed or actually crucial if you are working on any side hustle or became an entrepreneur.
It is much cheaper to create your own office space inside of your house than to rent one.
And at least at the beginning you want to keep your expenses on low level. This way you can invest more in your project development and focus 100% of your time and energy.
Running your own business is much more common these days than ever before. The only problem is you have to actually set up your own working space. How do you do that? How to make sure it will maximise your results?
Here’s how.
Start with making a list of just thinking through your ideal working space. What do you need to have? Is there anything absolutely crucial your home office wouldn’t complete without? Which of those are more nice-to-have?
Here are a few questions that might be helpful:

The more specific you will be and the more things you have on your list the easier the next step will be. Which is choosing the right spot inside of your house that can become your home office.
I believe you could also start with that. The only issue with choosing the working area first is that you will have to adjust your needs to the size of the room.
By this approach where you think of your needs first you can try to find the room that will fit all of that. If you can’t you can always rethink what you need. But both ways work.
If you just trying to make use of some small room then just go ahead, nothing wrong with that.

There is an old saying “have more #tools than you need” - there certainly is a lot of wisdom in that #DIY

So is there anything else you should take under account when creating your own home office? There certainly is, quite a few things actually. Usually people don’t think about it, but it makes a huge difference.
Once you have covered the two points above (in whatever order) you can now start to think of getting the right tools. Some of them you definitely put on your list while figuring out your needs.
And some of them are pretty obvious. You definitely need a desk and chair. But you need to know how big your desk should be. Do you need to accommodate only a laptop or it would be good to have some to write as well?
There are few things I can recommend and one of them is to get comfortable chair.
Believe me, it is a nightmare to work long hours from a basic and really cheap chair. It makes a lot of sense to invest a little bit more. Unless you are only planning to use it for 2 hours a week.

Another thing I would suggest is buying another screen. This will greatly improve your working experience on laptop. And even in the case of PCs, another screen just makes stuff so much easier and quicker.
Anything else? You bet! Definitely get a mouse and keyboard for your laptop.
You can also consider height adjustable desk that will allow you to work standing, but these are quite pricey. If you work a lot, however, your back can be really thankful.
Your personal working space should make you feel comfortable, so don’t forget about making it fun and interesting. You can also definitely make some storage room to keep organised.
From my personal experience I can tell you one thing – make it as much about you as you can. Don’t try to replicate office from your office, make your home office exciting to work from 🙂
You can also consider moving out to the garden. Check this out, it looks simply amazing!
