Being honest, although it’s 100% true, we can totally understand the pain of finding reliable extension builders. Or actually any builders in general. It’s definitely a challenge to minimise the risk and find someone you can trust.

That’s why we have decided to put down a list of things you should pay attention to.

It contains all the things we do ourselves and what we would look at when choosing a builder ourselves. For building house extension and other works too.

Top Tips for Choosing a Builder for Your Extension or Renovation

The truth to be told sometimes something that seems the best is not the best at all. And vice versa. Haven’t you ever felt disappointed when someone was claiming this is the best thing in the world and you found it to be pretty average?

And how pleasant it felt when something seemingly average was the best in the class, right?

That’s why the only thing you should really look at is the quality of their previous works. This should be the main factor really. And what opinions their previous clients do have about them. 

Can they recommend them? Is there anything they didn’t like? How are the results of their work? These are only some questions you can ask. On top of that we also recommend to check few other things as well.

• Do you get along with them? What’s your personal feeling?
• How well do they stand by the quality of their work?
• Do they offer any support with the project or supplies?
• Can they show you any previous works or letters of recommendation?
• Is there any breakdown in their quote or just overall cost?
• Does the builder have the appropriate insurances?
• What aftercare do they provide after the build?

There are probably also many other factors you can include, like trade associations or certifications. They might indeed be helpful, but some very skillful craftsmen we personally know do not possess any.

Still they are able to provide extremely good quality of their end products. That’s why I wouldn’t be too fussy about it, definitely not a deal breaker if you can verify the quality of their work.

Same applies to price, remember that quality products usually do have an adequate price tag.
